Taylor Swift Asks Somerdale Teen Battling Leukemia To Country Music Awards

SOMERDALE, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Taylor Swift has a date for the Academy of Country Music awards.

The country star asked a fan, Kevin McGuire of Somerdale, N.J., to the awards show. McGuire is 18 and has leukemia. His sister had started a campaign on Facebook to get Swift to go with him to his prom.

"Kevin deserves more than anyone a special event in his life...and the one thing he wants is to go to prom with Taylor Swift! Let's make this happen people! Taylor please go to prom with Kevin!!!!!! No one deserves it more," says the Facebook page.

Swift writes in a Facebook post of her own that she can't make it to the prom, but that she'd like for McGuire to accompany her to the awards ceremony April 1 in Las Vegas. She is nominated for three awards.

"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift posted. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up...Would you be my date?"

A spokesman for Swift confirms that she wrote the post. More than 100,000 people "liked" her post and nearly 10,00 people commented.

A post on the Facebook page for McGuire thanks her for the invitation and says the entire McGuire family is very grateful.
