Plaxico Burress Not 'Totally' Ruling Out Return To Jets
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Plaxico Burress wouldn't mind flying high next season.
But does he want to soar with the Jets or Eagles?
The soon-to-be free agent has talked up Philadelphia recently as his preferred landing spot. But Burress, who was thought to be done with the Jets, said Thursday that a return to Rex Ryan's squad is still a possibility.
"I'm just trying to put it all together," he said on "The Dan Patrick Show." "I'm going to make the best decision for myself, obviously. The Jet organization definitely took care of me this year, you know, bringing me into a situation where they didn't know what they were gonna get out of me.
"Rex just said to me that he wanted me back. He did say that, so I do know that they do want me. You know, being a free agent I do know that it's a business -- and I'm gonna weigh my options. I'm always chasing championships, so we'll see what happens."
Burress signed a one-year deal with New York after serving nearly 21 months behind bars on a gun charge. He recorded 45 catches for 612 yards and eight touchdowns in 2011.
The Eagles reportedly had interest in Burress last offseason. The wide receiver fueled the speculation by donning a Philadelphia Phillies cap upon his release from Oneida Correctional Facility last June. On Tuesday, Burress said in a radio interview that "nothing else" would please him more than playing for Andy Reid & Co.
"I'm not saying that I wouldn't go back to the Jets," Burress told Patrick. "I'm not ruling them out totally."
Burress said he doesn't have "any problems" with Mark Sanchez "at all," despite the reports of turmoil between the quarterback and fellow wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
Sanchez regressed in his third season with the Jets, leading some unnamed players to call him out in a New York Daily News report two months ago.
"Mark will play better," said Burress. "I know he'll get better, I know things don't sit well with him (as) far as being a competitor and being a good quarterback. ... I have confidence in him that he will play better and get better."
Burress spoke openly Tuesday about his desire to play alongside Michael Vick, who resurrected his career in Philadelphia after a lengthy prison term for dog fighting.
Thursday was no different. He continued to pour the praise on Philadelphia, saying it "would be a beautiful place to play, no doubt about it."
"With all the players that they already have in place, I just see myself going to where I could help that team win a championship," said Burress. "Obviously playing with Michael, we've known each other pretty much since junior high school. If I go to that team and score some touchdowns in the red zone I really believe they have the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl and win it."
