The baby contracted herpes from a ritual circumcision where the mouth is used to remove blood.
The Daily News reports the boy's family is not cooperating with authorities. It's believed the rabbi that performed the Bris is a relative, according to reports, but Hynes isn't revealing much.
"The investigation continues. We're not nearly ready to make any assessment yet," he said Wednesday.
This type of circumcision is controversal. While the city health department can't stop it, they recommend strongly against it.
