NYPD Arrests Teen After Death Of Brooklyn Toddler

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Brooklyn teenager has been arrested in the death of a 23-month-old boy, which was ruled a homicide.

The medical examiner's office said Jacqil Degraffenreid died of lacerations to the liver and pancreas and internal hemorrhaging.

He was found unconscious Saturday at his home and taken to Kings County Hospital, where he later died.

Nineteen-year-old Tyree Wright is charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child. Police say he is a friend of the child's mother.

Wright was reportedly taking care of the boy while the mom was at work. She is being questioned but has not been charged.

Police did not release her name, since she isn't a suspect.

"It's terrible. It makes you want to hold your son more, right?" one neighbor told CBS 2.

According to law enforcement sources, Wright, who has a criminal history including assault and robbery, made statements implicating himself, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reports.

Also on Saturday, a baby girl was found unconscious at her Bronx home. The cause of death of 2-month-old Angelise Correa is under investigation. There have been no arrests.
