Newborn Found Abandoned Across The Street From Hospital In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police are trying to determine who left a baby at a bus stop across the street from a hospital in Newark.

The baby girl was found Tuesday morning, officials said.

She was taken to the emergency room at University Hospital.

Her condition is unknown.

Safe Haven laws allow a person to drop off a baby at a hospital, police station or church but since the child was left outside, whoever is responsible could face endangerment charges.

No arrests have been made.

The case is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
