Brooks stood before the judge Wednesday as his lawyer entered the not guilty plea. He told the judge that he understands the charges against him.

Investigators say Brooks had videos that allegedly showed him sexually abusing at least two children inside a classroom at P.S. 243 in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors said evidence included videos of Brooks allegedly spanking one naked child and fondling another in a classroom. Investigators believe the videos were shot sometime between 2009 and 2010.

Brooks was a popular teacher's aide who coached basketball and supervised after-school activities. Parents from the school have recalled Brooks dressing up as the Easter bunny at a school function and he also worked with kids at the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club.

Brooks was initially arrested in mid-January. The criminal complaints says FBI agents discovered Brooks' activity by catching him sharing child porn online.

Investigators searched his home and confiscated his computer and two external hard drives and say they found over 1,000 digital files of child pornography on his computer.

School officials said Brooks had no prior criminal history and passed all background checks before he was hired.

Brooks faces a minimum of 15 years if convicted.
