Second Day Of Jury Deliberations In Rutgers Webcam Spying Trial Ends

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The jury has yet to reach a verdict after a second day of deliberations in the case of Dharun Ravi, a former Rutgers University student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate's encounter with another man.

Judge Glenn Berman said that jurors would return at 9 a.m. Friday.  The jury was given the case Wednesday and within an hour, jurors asked to see a copy of the judge's order.

Judge Berman said he didn't have a copy to give them, but said he would answer specific questions if they had them. A bit later, they asked about one of the bias intimidation charges, wanting to know definitions of "intimidation'' and "purpose.''

Ravi faces 15 charges, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. If found guilty, he faces up to 10 years behind bars and possible deportation back to India.

His attorney told CBS 2's Christine Sloan that Ravi hadn't been getting enough sleep, since he's worried as waits for the verdict.

There are relatively few factual disputes in the case. The challenge for jurors could be deciding whether the laws apply to what Ravi is alleged to have done.

"All of you must agree if the defendant is not guilty or guilty on each charge," Berman told the jury Wednesday morning. "You are to apply the law as I have instructed you, to the facts as you find them to be for the purpose of arriving at a fair and correct verdict."

Berman told jurors that they can convict Ravi of bias intimidation only if they believe he knew or should have known that invading the privacy of his roommate, 18-year-old Tyler Clementi, would have sparked some fear or intimidation because Clementi was gay.

Clementi jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge days after the alleged spying in September 2010.
