End Of Linsanity? New Coach, New System For Knicks

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Mike D'Antoni resigned as Knicks coach Wednesday, taking with him the high-octane style of play that never really caught on in New York.

Except for a few weeks in February, that is.

And because of D'Antoni's exit, the official end of Linsanity could be just around the corner.

Interim head coach Mike Woodson said Thursday that point guard Jeremy Lin is in a "learning stage." According to the New York Daily News, veteran Baron Davis "could replace Lin" in the starting five "within two weeks."

Even if Lin keeps his role, Woodson made it clear that he's going to lean on proven stars Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire.

"When I put a guy in the game, he's got a shot," said Woodson. "I want him to feel comfortable about making that shot. But I want everybody to know, when it comes to nut-cutting time and I've got a big shot, I'm going to Melo and Amar'e and guys that have done it."

Stoudemire and Anthony struggled this season under D'Antoni. They got back into the groove for Woodson's debut Wednesday, a 121-79 pasting of Portland.

"I just think he's just going to utilize his leading scorers," Stoudemire said. "With myself and Carmelo, he's going to utilize us to make sure that we take advantage of our every opportunity out there on the court. We've been profound scorers all our career, so we're going to make sure we take advantage of it."

Yet with just 23 games left, would it be wise to move away from a Lin-led offense?

The Harvard product has a 10-9 record in the Knicks' starting lineup, and was the lone bright spot -- a blinding one, at that -- in an otherwise disappointing 19-24 season.

"It's going to be a different style, a different rhythm," said Lin. "But we still need to figure it out because we don't all have it figured out just yet right now."
