Judge Won't Lower Bail In Fatal Wife Shooting Case

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (AP) -- A judge has refused to lower the $3 million bail set for a man accused in the fatal shooting of his wife in a New Jersey suburb last year.

John Bruno Jr., a lawyer who recently began representing 26-year-old Kashif Parvaiz, wanted his client's bail lowered to an amount between $250,000 and $750,000. But Morris County prosecutors opposed the motion Friday, noting that Parvaiz has a strong incentive to flee the country because he faces a life sentence if convicted.

Parvaiz, originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., and Antoinette Stephen of Billerica, Mass., are charged with murdering Parvaiz's wife, Pakistani-born Nazish Noorani.

Noorani was fatally shot Aug. 16 while she and Parvaiz pushed their son's stroller near Noorani's family home in Boonton. Parvaiz was also shot, but the child was unharmed.
