HARTFORD, CT (CBSNewYork) - The latest reading on Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy's job approval rating comes from the Quinnipiac University poll, where 44 percent of voters approve and 45 percent disapprove.

Poll director Doug Schwartz admits these are mixed results, but says of Malloy, "He has to be feeling better because the numbers are moving in right direction for him. We didn't see any big change, but nonetheless, it is his best score thus far."

It's not bad for a governor who hiked taxes dramatically to deal with an inherited deficit, says Schwartz.

On other topics, most Connecticut voters favor medical marijuana use and sunday liquor sales, the latter of which was heavily pushed for by Malloy and has begun advancing through the legislature.

But, by a wide margin, they do not want to see Connecticut's death penalty repealed. 62 percent say doing away with the state's death penalty would be a bad idea.

Malloy has said he would support repealing the death penalty, as long as it doesn't include the 11 people currently on death row in the state.
