NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Several churches in New York City paid tribute to Trayvon Martin during Sunday services.

Wearing hoodies in honor of the Florida teen, hundreds at the Middle Collegiate Church in the East Village voiced their concern and anger. Many said they believe it may have been racially motivated.

“Trayvon is emblematic. He could be any mother’s child,” said Joel Janka of Crown Heights. “It’s our collective duty to stand up and voice our concern.”

Police say Martin was shot and killed by neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman. Martin was wearing a hoodie at the time, reportedly carrying skittles and an ice tea.

Zimmerman’s lawyer claims he was acting in self-defense under the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law. He was not charged.

“I’m the mother of a son,” said Erica Hunt of the East Village. “I don’t know how to react exactly, but I know I have to do something about that.”

1010 WINS reporter Glenn Schuck reports…

One friend said in a TV interview that Zimmerman couldn’t stop crying for days after the shooting, and he’s had to go into hiding because of death threats.

Members of the New Black Panther Party put a $10,000 bounty for his capture.

Florida Governor Rick Scott says although his heart goes out to Martin’s parents, Zimmerman is entitled to his due process.

“He has not been accused. You have got to make sure no one feels uncomfortable that’s not been accused of a crime. So if he feels unsafe, then we’ll make sure nothing happens to him,” he said.

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours nowadays, but I by no means found any fascinating article like yours. It is pretty value enough for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you probably did, the internet will be a lot more useful than ever before.

“No justice, no peace” – sounds like a threat. Does anyone remember Reginald Denny? Of course not, he did not wear a hoodie.

According to a witness that wishes to remain anonymous has come forward saying Trayvon Martin attacked George Zimmerman. He says Martin was on top of him while Zimmerman was screaming for “help”. According to police, his story matched that of Zimmerman and it could be the reason he is still a free man today.

The police say Zimmerman was bleeding from the face and head. They also said the back of his shirt was grass stained and wet which would be a validation that a struggle had taken place.

Friday night on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, Zimmerman’s lawyer said his “client sustained a broken nose and a head laceration on the night of the incident”.

This is the same thing that happened to Roman Polanski- showing a two year old photo of a schoolgirl instead of the tall, well-developed young woman who was reportedly “raped” by the slight Polanski. She also had three birth certificates and was deemed a full grown woman by the doctor who examined her for the court.

They would have worn hoodies to church whether or not they knew who this kid was. Just out of curiousity, does anyone know the name of the kid that was beaten and then set on fire because of his race?

I wish to also say that Zimmerman was a pretend cop crazy
and looking for trouble ,and now he has it.

Kid was a thug.. World is better w/o him

In case you wish to know history it was European Monks in
the 15th century that started wearing Hoodies.
Why does the media keep presenting us with photo’s of T.Martin when he
was 15 ? not the way he looked when the Latin Brother shot him then he was
a tall man over 6 feet and with hiphop gold teeth and could look like a perp.

As we know Zimmerman has not spoken yet and is himself being lynched
over this crime by the media and even our President all without the facts.
So you all get the photo’s updated and see what Zimmerman saw at night
not that cute little boy with the white hoodie on. But a man over 6 feet tall.

Let’s wait for the other side of this story as it may have been by Trayvon
who was looking like a thug a fight and as Zimmerman says self defense
none of us were there so let’s wate for a trial

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how tall Trayvon was, what he was wearing or who was winning the fight. Zimmerman FOLLOWED Trayvon and started this whole thing when Trayvon was doing nothing wrong. I don’t care if he was beating Zimmerman to a bloody pulp because HE was the one who was looking for trouble. If anything, Trayvon was acting in self defense and Zimmerman just couldn’t take losing a fight to a teenage boy.. He belongs in prison. Believe me, at this point, it’s the safest place he can be.
