NEW YORK (WFAN) – Every football fan knows, every New Yorker knows, and at this point it seems like every person in America knows.

Tim Tebow is now officially a New York Jet. The backup QB held his first press conference as a member of Gang Green Monday.

Such a highly publicized press conference for a backup quarterback is incredibly rare, if not unprecedented, but when it comes to Tebow, nothing seems to be particularly normal.

While the Jets may be getting the headlines this offseason, the Giants are the undisputed kings of football at the moment as the reigning Super Bowl champions. So when Giants co-owner John Mara was asked if the Big Apple is big enough for both Tebow and the Giants, he couldn’t help but make light of the situation.

“I don’t know,” Mara told the New York Daily News.  “But the David Carr press conference will be tomorrow afternoon, too.”

The Giants recently re-signed Carr to back up Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.

Did Jets coach Rex Ryan reply harshly to Mara’s joking remark? It seems like he knows better, at this point.

“When you win a Super Bowl, you can say anything you want because they are the world champions,” Ryan said. “That’s all fine and dandy. To the young man, he’s not going out there trying to get the attention. The attention follows him.”

Tebow is expected to be the back up to Mark Sanchez, who the Jets recently signed to a three-year contract extension.

Do you find Tebow’s highly publicized press conference to be ridiculous, considering he’s expected to back up Sanchez? Sound off with your comments below…

I’m a Giants fan, and a supporter of all NY teams. I pull for the Jets, as long as they are not beating the Giants. Bottom line, I think the Jets are dividing, but are not going to conquer. Are The Giants/Jets playing this year?? I don’t think so, but it would be cool to see Eli vs. Sanchez/Tebow. It would be sad to watch.

Just watched the Tebow press conference. You can say what you want about this young man, but more young adults and even some adults should be paying close attention, because that young man is how all people should carry themselves. His parents did a phenomenal job raising Tim and the truth be told, more parents should take heed.

    God Bless, Go Jets!

I agree Sonny…his parents must be ecstatic to have raised a son like that!!! Long live Tebow and long live the Jets!!!

Two nice guys vying for one job…If the J E T S go to a single wing, then Tebow is the man. Knute Rocke to returns to coaching as the J E T S very offensive coordinator. If they are going to run an NFL offence then it s/b Mark.

Regardless the JETS are a continuation of the Long Island METS, NETS, JETS MESS…pretenders all!. Owned by owners who know nothing other than making money. Sports are a means to that ends. You do not have to win only fill those over priced seats.
