Apollo Theater associate producer Laura Greer told WCBS 880's Monica Miller that hundreds of people are expected to give it their all for a free five-day trip to the UK for the July 14th competition.

"Our desire and hope is that we will come out with at least four great contestants," Greer said.

Those contestants will then compete again four British contestants at a theater in East London.

"We're jokingly saying that it is a U.S. vs. UK competition," Greer added.

The Apollo Theater is holding open auditions on Saturday and Sunday night, and the winners will be selected at the theater on Wednesday, May 23.
