Queens Woman Seriously Injured In Early Morning Apartment Fire

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Queens woman is clinging to life after an early morning fire in her apartment building.

The FDNY said the blaze broke out on the fifth floor of the Lindenwood building around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

As firefighters fought back flames and heavy smoke, a 73-year-old woman was pulled from the building in cardiac arrest.

"She wasn't breathing, she had no pulse," Deputy Chief James DiDomenico said. "We rescued her from the apartment. We immediately started CPR on the fourth floor."

DiDomenico said firefighters brought the woman outside and continued administering CPR and were able to restore her pulse and breathing.

Officials said the woman was rushed to a local hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.

Four other people were treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
