Silverstone Reportedly Responds To Controversial Video Of Her Feeding Son

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Actress and mom Alicia Silverstone has reportedly responded to her controversial blog video in which she is seen feeding her son.

The video, which was posted on her site "The Kind Life" last month, showed Silverstone pre-chewing the food of her toddler son, Bear Blu, before discharging it into his mouth like a bird.

"I wasn't saying this was anything somebody should do," Silverstone said at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

According to RadarOnline.com, the actress was promoting her upcoming movie, "Vamps," and said she "wasn't trying to be independent or cause a ruckus."

Silverstone said that people have been feeding their children similarly, through the process known as premastication, for thousands of years.

The post that caused a ruckus was entitled "home video: breakfast with baby bear."

"I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi and nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup… from my mouth to his. It's his favorite...and mine," Silverstone posted.

The practice of pre-chewing food for infants is more common in other parts of the world.
