NYPD Hunts For Suspect In Riverside Park Rape Attempt

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD asked for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of an attempted rape in Manhattan's Riverside Park.

The victim, a 24-year-old Asian woman, was jogging between West 125th Street and West 122nd Street around 6 p.m. Friday when the suspect approached her from behind, police said.

He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and began to choke her before throwing her to the ground.

Witnesses in the area interrupted the attempted rape, police said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect is described as being an Hispanic man between 35 and 40-years-old, standing 5'9" and weighing 180 lbs. He was wearing a blue baseball cap and back pack, both with a Nike "swoosh" insignia.
