Farmingdale State College Students Spend Sunday Cleaning Up Campus

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -  Instead of going to the beach today, students on Long Island spent Sunday volunteering.

Farmingdale State College was filled with students today, and no, they weren't attending classes -- they were lending a hand, instead.

Student Yisan Wong told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall that the group decided to spend the day cleaning up the Long Island campus to make it look perfect for an open house later this week.

"We are going to clean up, rake the leaves and twigs and pick up trash," Wong said. "We will [volunteer] again. This is the first time we're doing it, but hopefully every semester we do it."

Wong said everyone wore green, and she added that the best part is that it's relaxing to know you're helping the environment.

Shouldn't all college students partake in this kind of activity to help their institution? Share your thoughts below...
