Police: Uniondale Man Was Driving The Wrong Way On The Hempstead Turnpike
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - A Uniondale man was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday morning for driving the wrong way on the Hempstead Turnpike, Nassau County's Highway Patrol Bureau said.
Jose M. Martinez, 51, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane on the Hempstead Turnpike without his headlights on, police said. A Nassau County police offer said he put on his emergency lights and was able to get the driver's attention, helping him come to a safe stop as traffic continued to pass.
Martinez is charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, insufficient lights and driving across a median.
