MASTIC, N.Y (CBSNewYork) — A late night house fire in Suffolk County has left two people dead and third critically injured.House Passes Equality Act, Bolstering Legal Protections For LGBTQ Americans

It took crews nearly two hours to put out the blaze and firefighters were able to pull three people from the home.
Douglas DeSouza, 64, his wife, 64-year-old Barbara DeSouza, and a third man were all taken to the hospital where the two men died. Barbara DeSouza survived, but is listed in critical condition.READ MORE: Queens Woman Undergoes Liver Transplant After Doctors Link Mystery Infection To Nose Piercing
Suffolk County Det. Sgt. Thomas Groneman said every possible effort was made to rescue the victims.
“The Mastic Fire Department arrived, several of their firefighters went in and made a heroic effort,” Groneman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
