NJ Softball Coach, Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Underage Boy

WOOD-RIDGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Scandalous sex allegations have shaken up two New Jersey school communities.

Jillian Clementi, a 28-year-old girls' softball coach at Wood-Ridge High School in Bergen County, is accused of having sex with an underage boy who attended the school and has since graduated. The sexual activities occurred at the teacher's former residence in Lyndhurst, the Bergen County prosecutor announced Thursday.

The Newark Archdiocese confirmed that Clementi, who is also a history teacher at Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, has been suspended because of the charges.

The investigation began after the Wood-Ridge High School became aware Clementi may have engaged in sexual activities with a former male student of the school, according to the Bergen County prosecutor.

The high school contacted authorities, who in turn, contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit.

Students and faculty at Wood-Ridge remained quiet on Thursday and took extraordinary measures from preventing the media from getting near the school.

The Newark Archdiocese said they have notified parents about Clementi, who has been teaching at Immaculate Heart since 2008.

Clementi has been charged with 2nd-degree sexual assault and 2nd-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

She was released after posting $50,000 bail and will be arraigned on May 8.
