NANUET, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — There’s less of the old Nanuet Mall to see, but the new shops will soon bring Fairway Market to Rockland County.

By the time the Fairway Market opens at the Shops of Nanuet, it may be their 15th location. But Fairway’s Aaron Fleishaker said it will be their first venture into a former mallscape.

“The mall operators are looking to kind of re-develop these traditional properties into somewhat non-traditional ways, so Fairway has been looking at some of these properties as a way to find great locations with good access and good visibility,” said Fleishaker.

The chain has many loyal customers thanks in part to the store’s noted fresh produce, imported olive oils and gluten-free groceries.

A 66,000-square-foot store and cafe will be built along Route 59 and is expected to open in 2013.

Typically, Fairways create 400 to 500 jobs.
