Driver Charged In Deadly Ocean Parkway Head-On Car Crash

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A driver involved in a head-on car crash in Sheepshead Bay that left one man dead has been arrested.

Beka Skhirtladze, 26, of Brooklyn, has been charged with reckless endangerment, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and reckless driving in connection with Saturday's deadly crash.

Skhirtladze lost control of his BMW, struck the center divider on the Ocean Parkway and crossed over into oncoming traffic where it hit a minivan, police said.

The driver of the van, 23-year-old Jamal Iqual, was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.

Skhirtladze was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. His passenger, a 30-year-old woman, was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition.
