Two People Accused Of Raping, Trying To Kill 46-Year-Old Woman In Roosevelt

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Two suspects have been arrested and a third is being sought for sexually assaulting and trying to kill a woman in Roosevelt, police said.

The 46-year-old victim met up with a friend in Hempstead around 3 p.m. on May 5 and went with him to visit his friends at a home on Brookside Drive, police said.

The friend left the home, leaving the victim alone with the three suspects who then accused her of owing them money, police said.

When the victim told them that she didn't have any money, they beat her about the face, sexually assaulted her and stole her purse and cellphone, police said.

The suspects then placed a plastic bag over the victim's head, bound her hands and feet and dumped her body in a wooded area behind Henry Street, police said.

The victim was able to free herself and scream for help, police said.

Kenneth Bass, 52, and Julia Lopez, 37 were arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, rape, criminal sex act, assault, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

A third suspect is still being sought.

The victim was treated at a local hospital.
