A two acre site has been chosen for a reflecting pool surrounded by flowering trees, one for each Connecticut service member who died in the war.

"There's a walkway. It's sort of in an oval shape, and the city of Middletown is actually going to build a pond in the center and we're going to put benches around it," Mayor Daniel Drew told Schneidau.

"The men and women that we're going to be honoring here gave what President Lincoln called at the Gettysburg Address, their 'last full measure of devotion,'" said the mayor.

Project workers hoped to raise $200,000 to fund the memorial. To donate, visit the memorial's website.

The mayor said Middletown was chosen for the town because it is centrally located in the state. It's hope that many will find it convenient to visit.
