Dairy Queen Coming To St. George Ferry Terminal On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Staten Island is bracing for a Blizzard.

Not the havoc-wreaking weather kind, but the delicious ice-cream kind.

It's been nearly 30 years since a Dairy Queen opened its doors to serve some of its famous ice cream on Staten Island.

With locations on Hylan Boulevard in New Dorp and Forest Avenue in West Brighton being abandoned by the early 80's, the soft serve and fast food restaurant makes its return to Staten Island when it opens a location in the St. George Ferry Terminal.

The Staten Island location will be the only one in New York City, with 6,000 locations worldwide. The restaurant chain also looks to open an additional 2-3 locations in the city, according the DQ's CEO John Gainor.

Though a specific date for the opening has not been declared, but the store's announced location is searchable on the store locator from Dairy Queen's site.

Known for their signature Blizzards, DQ also offers burgers, hot dogs and french fries, and other frozen desserts.
