Gotham Gossipist: Alec Baldwin Makes Million Dollar Donation To New York Theater

By Kimberly Rae Miller

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Next time you let get annoyed with Alec Baldwin's Capital One Card commercials, just know he's doing it for a good cause.

Two days after his wedding to Hilaria Thomas, Baldwin reportedly surprised the New York Philharmonic with a $1 million donation.  The Wall Street Journal  says that the money came from the paycheck he receives for serving as Capital One paycheck spokesman.

The Philharmonic wasn't the only local arts organization bestowed with Baldwin's generosity, he also made a $500,000 contribution to the Roundabout Theatre Company.

A wedding and a philanthropy spree - if the last few months have been a public relations nightmare for the actor, the last few days have been heaven sent.

Now all he needs is a baby and a puppy and everyone will forget all about the Words With Friends Fiasco, the Canadian stalker, and his habit of assaulting photographers.

Good move, Alec.
