WATCH: Devastated Devils Fan Takes Out Frustration By Burning Zach Parise's Jersey
NEW YORK (WFAN) - Devils fans are unquestionably upset -- and with good reason -- that their prized left wing Zach Parise bolted New Jersey for the Minnesota Wild via free agency.
Parise, the top NHL free agent entering the offseason, shocked the hockey world -- and especially Devils supporters -- when he signed a 13-year, $98 million deal with Minnesota on July 4.
While many fans are heartbroken, some appear to be taking the transaction a bit more personally than others.
Cue "Evan NJ," a YouTube user who taped himself burning Parise's jersey on the Fourth of July before uploading it online. In the video, the embattled fan hovered a sparkler over the Minnesota native's jersey before engulfing it in flames.
As the attacker pondered his move, he proceeded to preach to himself, saying, "Well, Zach went back to Minnesota. Happy Fourth of July. I hope you enjoy the lakes and your time there. Bye Zach."
And then, in an instant, boom! The 27 year old's jersey went up in flames.
The five-foot-11, 195-pounder spent his first seven seasons in the NHL with the Devils, in the process establishing himself as one of the premier offensive players in the league.
In 2011-12 -- in which Parise lead the Devils to the Stanley Cup Finals -- the former first-round draft pick scored 31 goals and dished out 38 assists, all the while playing in every game for New Jersey.
For his career, Parise has compiled 194 goals, 216 assists and 410 points.
