Luke Bryan A 'True Southern Gentleman' As He Re-Defends National Anthem Performance

Fresh off his performance of the National Anthem at the MLB All-Star Game, Luke Bryan appeared on Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series on Friday (July 13th). Luke had New York City's Central Park early morning cowgirls swooning as the crowd joined in when he performed his recent number one smash hit single, "Drunk On You!"

As Luke talks with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, he credits the “Three F’s” (friends, fans and family) for his many successes, especially over the last year or so, to which he states that everyday he wakes up with a "big smile, feeling so blessed" and thanks his "wonderful" fans for all their support. He also credits his dad for kicking him out, no, actually threatening to fire him from the family business, (a peanut farm and fertilizer company) if he didn’t leave to pursue his dreams in the music business.

Robin also asked about the aforementioned National Anthem performance during the MLB Allstar Game in Kansas City that had some people raising their eyebrows. Luke admits to having the words to "Star Spangled Banner" written on his hand because he "didn't want to mess it up."

He adds, “What’s funny is when I looked down I didn’t even know what I was looking at,” he continues, “I mean I had the notes there but I didn’t see anything and next thing I know I’ve got stealth bombers flying over.” As Luke explains, since he isn’t a Veteran, and can’t go serve his country, this is the one way that he can.  He wraps up with "It was one of the best moments of my life singing.  I said an apology, and I do mean that, and if anybody was offended by my way about it, I really was sorry about it.”  You may agree with Robin as she tells Luke Bryan “my friend, you are a true southern gentleman."
