Horace Mann School Trustees Respond To Sexual Abuse Allegations

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Horace Mann responded to allegations Monday that dozens of students were sexually abused by teachers.

It is alleged the abuse happened between the 1960s and the 1990s at the prestigious Bronx school.

In a letter posted to the school's website, the Board of Trustees said the school is working to reaffirm that no current student has been subject to abuse.

"We as trustees are appalled and saddened by reports of abuse of children by certain past faculty members," the letter said.

The school will partner with the New York Society for the Prevention and Cruelty to Children.  They'll train and educate staff on how to handle sex abuse complaints.

"We will continue to look for ways that we can help all members of our community move forward and will consider additional actions as warranted," the letter concluded.
