Police said the driver of the SUV, who appeared to be drunk, went through a stop sign at the intersection of 20th Avenue and 61 Street, hitting the garbage truck head-on.

The impact knocked the truck on its side, throwing a worker from the back, according to emergency responders. The driver of the truck managed to crawl out.

The two sanitation workers were taken to the hospital and are both listed in stable condition.
