Atheists Want WTC Cross Out Of 9/11 Museum

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - An atheist group wants to block the National September 11th Memorial and Museum from displaying the iconic World Trade Center cross.

The group American Atheists Inc. filed a lawsuit to block the display of the cross, saying that the cross-shaped steel beam would "impose religion through the power of the state."

The 9/11 Museum is fighting back, saying in court papers seeking to have the lawsuit tossed that they are an independent non-profit organization and not a government agency.

They also say the cross is an artifact, not a religious symbol.

According the New York Post, the museum also blasted the atheists for suggesting that a "17-foot-high A for Atheists" or an American Atheists lapel button also be included in its exhibition.

Do you think the WTC cross should be displayed at the 9/11 Museum? Sound off in the comments section below.
