Elderly Woman Struck And Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Investigators are searching for a hit-and-run driver whose car struck and killed a 90-year-old woman with dementia early Saturday morning.

Police said Nella Atkins had wandered from her home in Waterbury and was hit by the car at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Highland and Bradley Avenues.

Police said Atkins lived near the crash scene.

She was taken to Waterbury Hospital, where physicians pronounced her dead.

Police said the driver fled the scene after the crash.

Investigators are trying to identify the suspect and urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 203-755-1234.
