Queens Gun Buyback Event Gets Hundreds Of Weapons Of The Streets

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A gun buyback event in Queens on Saturday netted the city 509 weapons.

The buyback was held at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jamaica.

Some of the guns turned included 245 revolvers, 168 semi-automatic pistols and 35 shotguns. An AK 47 and a tec-9 were also turned in.

Two mothers who lost their teenage sons to gun violence were at Saturday's event. They said they hope those guns being taken off the street would help prevent other parents going through what they went through.

Since the program began, more than 8,200 guns have been turned in.

People who turn in guns, whether they're legal or illegal weapons, receive $200 bank cards, no questions asked.
