"I got good legs, arms and a good head," Scala told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

Scala was also included in Astoria Federal Bank's 2012 Calendar as Mr. February.

Scala spent the majority of his life in East Islip and worked as a beautician, musician, and tailor. Today, he can be spotted wearing hand-made beaded hats and ties and playing the saxophone.

He is the sole survivor of five brothers and two sisters.

Scala has been married three times and has had three children as well as one grandchild, all of whom are now also deceased.

He said the secret to living a long life is to eat healthy small meals and have a sense of humor.

The assisted living community and staff are hosting a special birthday event for Gene which will feature live music and entertainment. Many of Gene's friends and extended family are expected to visit from across the country.
