Poll: New Yorkers Approve of Bike Lanes

NEW YORK (AP) - A new poll has found that most New Yorkers are giving bike lanes the thumbs up.

The New York Times poll has found that when asked if bike lanes are a good idea or bad idea, 66 percent of New Yorkers say they were a good idea, with the highest support coming from Manhattan.

Twenty-seven percent of residents say it was a bad idea and seven percent had no opinion.

The city's bike-sharing program, which has been delayed until next spring, is still not getting any traction. Forty percent of respondents had not heard anything about it and more than half likely won't use it.

The poll surveyed 1,026 adults by telephone from Aug. 10 to 15. It has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
