As Family Grieves, Steven Ercolino's Brother Speaks Out About Tragedy

WARWICK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Steven Ercolino's family's home in Warwick in Orange County was very quiet on Saturday, 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck reported, as neighbors are protective for their privacy during this time of grief.

Friends and family are saying that the Ercolinos are still trying to grasp what's happened here.

"It's just that these are quiet, decent people, and it's the least thing that you expect," one woman close to the family told Schuck. "These are nice, quiet people -- they're good neighbors -- and it's very, very hard for the rest of us. We're very supportive of each other and we take care of each other. We will be there for them as long as they need us."

Ercolino's family didn't want to address the issues that Ercolino may have had with Jeffrey Johnson, the man who killed him.

They remember 41-year-old Ercolino as a great dad. He was planning to possibly get married and had just got a new place to live in Hoboken so he could be closer to the city.

Steven's brother, Paul, told CBS 2 that even though Johnson is dead, that certainly doesn't make the death of his brother any easier.

"It's not something that I get comfort in, because my brother is not here," Paul Ercolino said.

He added that this situation is just an absolute nightmare.

"You wake up in the morning, it's a beautiful sunny day and then your brother is gone," Paul said.

Security is guarding the Ercolino family's townhome, and funeral arrangement for Ercolino are under way.

What a nightmarish situation for the family. Share your thoughts and comments in the section below...
