Man Charged With Assault Following Alleged Acid Attack On Daughter

NEW YORK (AP) -- New York City police say a 69-year-old man claimed his daughter was abusing him and doused her daughter with acid.

Witnesses told the Daily News of New York that 50-year-old Darlene Lynch was badly injured and the skin peeled from her face after the attack Saturday. She was apparently splashed by Jerome Lynch with a drain cleaner called El Diablo made with sulfuric acid. He was arrested on charges of assault, and said his daughter had been abusing him.

Witnesses say the woman's skin looked like melting wax. She was taken to a burn unit at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She was expected to survive.

Jerome Lynch was in a wheelchair after having a stroke a few years ago, his family told the newspaper.
