Owner Of Massive Weapons Cache In Astoria Faces Up To 15 Years In Prison

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Neighbors said they knew that 53-year-old Michael Millazzo was into weapons, but they couldn't believe what police took out of his small apartment on Friday.

Box after box of weapons were taken, including handguns, 32 machetes, 60 knives, air guns, tasers and 10,000 rounds off ammunition.

"All of these bullets, eventually, maybe he wanted to use them one day," one neighbor told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "I'm just glad that he's out of here because he was a bomb ready to explode."

Neighbors in the Shore Road complex in Astoria are just thankful that this was all found in time.

"Lately (Millazzo) had been more testy, he had been acting up a lot more," another neighbor explained. "So we don't know what he was planning to do, and it's better to have avoided it than to find out the hard way."

He pointed out one instance that was considerably alarming.

"An exterminator came to his house, and he showed off a weapon to try to scare the guy," the neighbor said.

Police came to the complex looking for Millazzo after neighbors tipped them off to the fact that he stood outside in the courtyard and fired off a shot last weekend.

Millazzo was taken away in handcuffs, and he faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. His arraignment was scheduled for Saturday.

Does Millazzo's arsenal surprise you, or do you believe that there are more weapons enthusiasts out there than we think? Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
