Giants Re-Sign Mitch Petrus After D.J. Jones Fails Physical

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — One day after releasing him, the New York Giants re-signed guard Mitch Petrus on Sunday.

Petrus, a third-year player, was waived Saturday after the Giants were awarded offensive tackle D.J. Jones on waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. But the claim was negated when Jones failed his physical with the Giants.

Jones spent most of last season on the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad. The Eagles claimed him off waivers on Feb. 6 and waived him Friday.

A fifth-round draft choice in 2010, Petrus played in 17 regular-season games with three starts. He appeared in all four 2011 postseason games.
