Family And Friends Gather To Remember Teen Killed In Party Bus Accident

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Family and friends gathered on Monday to remember a teenager who was killed in a party bus accident.

Daniel Fernandez was killed when he opened the top hatch of a double-decker party bus and hit his head on an overpass near the George Washington Bridge.

Fernandez' friends told CBS 2's Christine Sloan that they were devastated by the popular teenager's death.

"I can't even explain it, I haven't gotten sleep, when I found this I just broke down," said one girl.

Many of the boy's traumatized friends took to Twitter to express their grief.

"Sitting here with your blood on my foot, wishing this was all a bad dream. I love you so much Dan, you were there for me until the last second," Tweeted a friend who was with Fernandez on the party bus.

Experts told CBS 2 that Tweeting is a common way for teenagers to share their emotions and cope with situations like this.

"It's the new way they communicate today, it's the new way of expressing emotion," said Dr Bart Rossi.

The investigation into Fernandez' death is continuing; Port Authority Police have interviewed teens and adults who were aboard the bus and will work with the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office to determine whether criminal charges need to be filed.
