Ex-Giant Michael Strahan Introduced As Kelly Ripa's Co-Host

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Former NFL star Michael Strahan now has a permanent job in morning television as Kelly Ripa's co-host.

On Tuesday, Strahan replaced Regis Philbin on the syndicated "Live! With Kelly" show. The gap-toothed Giants football great is currently a host of "Fox NFL Sunday."

Ripa announced the move with Strahan jogging in and picking his co-host up in a bear hug.

"It's so nice to have a cohost who can literally sweep you off your feet," said Ripa.

Strahan was one of several men to get tryouts with Ripa as the show rotated several potential replacements since Philbin left last November. Philbin was the original "Live!" host for more than 28 years, with Ripa joining him in 2001.

Even WFAN co-host Boomer Esiason had a tryout in January, though the former Jets quarterback insisted beforehand it would be a "one-and-done" appearance.
