The car was traveling north on Sixth Avenue when the driver ran a red light at 50th Street and rammed into the shuttle van, police said.

"Mercedes high, excessive speed up Sixth Avenue ran the red light and broad-sided our van, which had passengers inside. Dropping off to various hotels in Manhattan," a representative from Go Link airport shuttles told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck.

Three of the people are in critical condition, EMS told 1010 WINS.

The shuttle van representative said these types of accidents in Midtown are common.

"Guys come out of these clubs, they're drunk they jump in the car they want to race and this is what happens. And this is every weekend I've seen accidents like this," the man told Schuck.

Witnesses told 1010 WINS that a dozen bystanders helped free a man pinned under the van by lifting up the flipped-over van.

The driver of the Mercedes has been taken into custody on suspicion of DWI, 1010 WINS reported.
