Report: Williamsburg Ranked Number Three On List Of Top Ten U.S. Hipster Neighborhoods

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Forbes has released a list of the top 10 hipster neighborhoods in America and Williamsburg is not at the top of the list.

The Brooklyn hipster enclave was ranked number 3, behind Silver Lake, Los Angeles and Mission District, San Francisco.

Forbes and Nextdoor.com compiled the list based on data from more than 250 U.S. neighborhoods, and considered factors like "walkability", "coffee Shops per capita", "locally owned businesses", and "number of farmers markets" among other things.

1010 WINS reporter Sally Ann Mosey spoke with Williamsburg residents about the neighborhood's ranking.

"It's kind of expected, it's being gentrified, and that was predicted 5-years ago. You see a lot more nuclear families starting to pop up, it happened in Park Slope," said Greg.

Some residents seemed to resent the hipster label.

"I don't know what a hipster is, is that anybody who dresses colorfully or experiments? I'm dressed like my uncles from Mexico City and I resent the term," said Victor.

Other residents said that it wasn't the label or the ranking that was important, but the quality of life in Williamsburg that made them want to live there.
