Poll: Connecticut U.S. Senate Race A Dead Heat

The numbers are tight, according to Quinnipiac University poll director Doug Schwartz, who added that on the key question of the day, neither candidate has an edge.

"When you ask voters 'Who understands the economic problems facing the people of Connecticut?,' it's a tie between McMahon and Murphy, and this question is the most important question in predicting the vote," Schwartz told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Schwartz said McMahon has currently benefitted from the millions she has spent on campaign ads, coming out with a higher favorability rating than Murphy.

But, Schwartz said that, on Election Day, Murphy may benefit from the President's coattails, since the polls show Mr. Obama with a 12-point lead over Mitt Romney in Connecticut.

The two candidates will be starting a round of debates on Sunday and Schwartz said that could lead to one of them opening up a lead.
