WATCH: 49ers Fans, Giants Fans Engage In Brawl In Ugly Scene At Candlestick Park
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Giants and the 49ers squared off in a heated game at Candlestick Park on Sunday, but the players weren't the only ones who showed aggression in San Francisco.
Prior to Sunday's highly-anticipated matchup, a large chunk of Big Blue fans and 49ers fans got into a vicious brawl. The scene turned quickly ugly, as both men and women took part in the melee. There was pushing, screaming and punching, and the incident lasted nearly a minute.
The Giants split their season series with the 49ers in the 2011 campaign, forging a rivalry between the two talented teams. The G-Men fell to San Francisco , 27-20, during the regular season, and then defeated the Niners in a thrilling overtime contest in the NFC championship game to advance to the Super Bowl.
San Francisco, thought by many to be the best team in football this season, was favored to win on Sunday, but the Giants put on an impressive display en route to a 26-3 victory.
