NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Alex Rodriguez has been ice-cold at the plate this postseason, but the Yankees slugger could also have some explaining to do for his reported actions on the bench during Game 1 of the ALCS.

A-Rod’s attention was elsewhere Saturday night after he was pulled for Eric Chavez in the bottom of the eighth, according to the New York Post.

While New York was headed into extra innings thanks to Raul Ibanez’s ninth-inning heroics, Rodriguez “openly flirted” with two women behind the home dugout, the Post reported.

A-Rod wrote a message on a baseball asking for their numbers and had a ball boy act as courier, a witness told the paper. One obliged after reading the note to nearby fans, the observer said.

“One of the girls, with darker blond hair, wrote … on the ball and threw it back at A-Rod, who gave her a big smile,” the witness said.

The Post’s Yankee Stadium gawker said A-Rod and the woman “exchanged a few glances after that,” but he got his head back in the game “once Derek Jeter got hurt.”

“If you’re a fan, you’re sick of it,” WFAN co-host Craig Carton said of Rodriguez on Tuesday.

Some fans told 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck they’re not surprised A-Rod’s actions.

“They’re dogs,” one fan said. “They got women all around them and that’s what they go out and do. I expect it of athletes.”

“He’s going to need to do something if he’s not going to play baseball so why not go get a date?” another fan said. “And if you’re going to use the Yankees ball boy, hey, that’s using resources that you already have.”

The Yankees would go on to lose Game 1, 6-4. Worse, they lost Jeter for the season with a broken ankle.

A-Rod and the Yankees, now in a 2-0 series hole, will look to take Game 3 in Detroit on Tuesday night.
