However, poll director Jennifer Dineen says, essentially, Murphy is still within the four point margin of error.

Linda McMahon's campaign quickly responded to the poll, complaining that the sampling was slanted to favor Murphy.

Dineen says slanting the respondents is impossible since the question of party affiliation is one of the final questions posed.

"We asked party identification after we have selected likely voters," she told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.

Dineen said what's clear in this latest poll is that Murphy's support among women is growing.

"When we looked at this race a month ago, there was almost no difference between the vote of men and women and women are definitely going more towards Murphy," she said.

She said he's McMahon is strong in Eastern Connecticut and Fairfield County.

But, she says voter sentiment could certainly change before Election Day.

A Siena poll showed Murphy with a 46 to 44 lead over McMahon.

Both candidates are trying to take the seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
