Thanksgiving is a time for celebrations and parties, but before you leave the house to see family and friends, if you plan to drink, you should plan ahead and designate a driver.

"We have witnessed so many tragedies where kids are being killed, young adults are being killed, by drunk drivers," St. Sen. Charles Fuschillo of Long Island told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall. "Don't be stupid. Make the responsible choice and don't drink and drive and don't take your life or somebody else's life."

He said that when someone chooses to drink and drive, their car becomes a deadly weapon.

He added that "texting while driving is becoming as serious as drunk driving and we're just trying to send the message out there."

He wants you to celebrate Thanksgiving with your family, not in the hospital or the morgue.
