Report: Romney Won At Least 50 Percent Of Vote In 2 Manhattan Precincts

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- While President Barack Obama won Manhattan handily earlier this month, a published report late last week said Republican Mitt Romney won at least 50 percent of the vote in a couple of precincts – notably the one that includes Trump Tower.

A New York Times report published this past Friday said the precinct that includes Trump International Hotel & Tower, 725 Fifth Ave., was one of two in all of Manhattan where for president on Nov. 6.

Donald Trump himself, of course, has gained plenty of notoriety for his criticism of Obama. Before it was clear that Obama had won the popular vote, Trump tweeted that the election was a "sham and a travesty" and called for a "revolution."

But the New York Times pointed out that Romney did not actually win the precinct that includes Trump Tower. The vote was evenly tied between Romney and Obama, who each won 110 votes, the Times reported.

Romney won only one Manhattan precinct outright, the Times reported. On a stretch of Park Avenue near the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, all six voters who came out on Election Day voted Republican, the newspaper reported.

Romney was more successful in some areas of the outer boroughs – winning 97 percent of the support in a precinct in Gravesend, Brooklyn, and more than 90 percent in many parts of Borough Park and Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, the Times reported. But in traditionally more conservative Staten Island, Obama eked out a victory with 50.2 percent of the vote, the Times reported.

And in 91 of the city's 5,286 precincts, Obama received 100 percent of the vote, the New York Times reported.

Overall, Romney only won 18.3 percent of the in-person vote citywide, the New York Times reported.

But it could have been worse. In Obama's hometown of Chicago, Romney carried a handful of precincts, but his best showing anywhere was 68.32 percent in a precinct in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood, a remote Southwest Side area that is home to many police officers and firefighters.

Romney won less than 1 percent of the vote in many Chicago precincts, and none at all in 37, according to published reports. Fifty-nine precincts in Philadelphia and nine in Cleveland also went unanimously for Obama, CBS News reported.
