Jets Sign Wide Receiver Mardy Gilyard

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Jets have signed wide receiver Mardy Gilyard to the active roster, giving the team some depth at the position with Clyde Gates and Chaz Schilens in the process of recovering from concussions.

The team also signed wide receiver Eddie McGee and offensive lineman Dennis Landolt to the practice squad Wednesday. The moves come a day after the Jets waived offensive lineman Hayworth Hicks.

Gilyard is a speedy receiver who spent less than a week with the Jets last season. He was signed by Philadelphia in September, and released by the Eagles last Friday. Gilyard was a fourth-round pick of St. Louis in 2010 and had all six of his NFL catches that season.

Gates and Schilens were both injured last Thursday in the team's 49-19 loss to New England.

In two seasons, Gilyard has received six receptions for 63 yards.
